Background checks and drug tests for nursing and allied health students
Students order their background check and drug test in the same portal that tracks the rest of their clinical file. Results go only to the people at your school who need them.

What you can order
10-panel drug test, $40
A urine drug screen at a nearby collection site. It does not include alcohol or add-on drugs.
Drug test with alcohol, $50
One urine test at the collection site, for sites that also ask for an alcohol test.
12-panel drug test, $55
For sites that ask for a wider panel. Compare the site's list of drugs with the panel before students order.
Standard background check, $35
A name-based criminal background check. The student gives written permission before it runs.
Premium background check, $70
Adds a 7-year county criminal search and a FACIS Level 3 healthcare sanctions search.
Students pay online, or the school pays on one invoice with a program code. Online orders are final sale.
How ordering works
- You pick the panel and the check for each program, so students can't buy the wrong one.
- The student orders in the portal and gets the collection-site instructions, or the background check consent form.
- Results come straight from the lab and the screening partner. They're filed in the student's record. They are never part of Pact Compliance Review.
- Your authorized staff see the result. It is never on a clinical site share link. A verification letter shows only that the requirement is met.
Things that trip programs up
- Panel mismatch. Some sites list drugs that a standard 10-panel doesn't include. Check the list before choosing the panel.
- Timing windows. A test that's too early ages out before the start date. Order inside the site's window.
- Dilute results. Many sites don't accept a negative-dilute result and want a retest. See our guide to negative-dilute results.
- Doctor review calls. A non-negative result goes to a medical review officer, who calls the student. Students who miss that call can delay their result. See why the MRO calls.
- Fingerprints. Some states and programs require a fingerprint check or state clearance card. Those run through state systems; Pact doesn't sell them.
- A named screening company. If a clinical site names its own screening company, students must use that company.
Pact Compliance Review checks every upload, usually within minutes, 24/7: shots, TB, CPR cards and forms. Students and your staff get 24/7 help by chat.
Common questions
Does the 10-panel cover every drug a site may list?
No. The $40 10-panel is a standard panel. It doesn't include alcohol or the add-on drugs some sites list. If a site requires more, choose a panel that includes it, or check with the site.
Who sees background check results?
Only the people at your school you authorize. Results are never on a clinical site share link and never part of Pact Compliance Review.
Can the school pay instead of students?
Yes. Students sign up with your program code and the school gets one invoice.
Does Pact do fingerprinting?
No. Pact's background checks are name-based. State fingerprint checks and clearance cards run through state systems.
Where do students take the drug test?
At a nearby collection site. The student gets the instructions after ordering.
